Eraserhead is an American surrealist horror film released in March 1977. The debut feature of acclaimed director David Lynch, it soon built up a reputation as a must-see piece of surrealist horror cinema, thanks in part to regular rotation on the Midnight Movie circuit of the late 70s.
Forty five years later it’s still considered an essential piece of filmmaking; as shocking, bizarre and baffling as it was when first released.
‘In Heaven’ is a celebration of this very unique movie; a love letter to Lynch and his extraordinary celluloid creation. As well as presenting an overview of the movie’s themes and aesthetic, the book is also fully illustrated. Scenes are recreated in black and white mixed media, capturing the dark and grimy despair of the antagonist’s world within Eraserhead.
A CD of music is also included; dark ambient soundscapes created by ‘the closer we are to dying‘. This 12 track suite has been devised specifically to complement each chapter of the book and to enhance the experience of delving deeper into the dreamlike narrative of the movie.
A must for fans of David Lynch, art, music, surrealist filmmaking and film in general.
The second publication for Spinout Publications, this will mostly be available via here, and all very good bookshelves.
